Our story
The West African Trans* Forum was created in July 2017 in Benin with the help of several Trans* leaders from Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Mali, Togo, Cameroon, Benin, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Senegal and Liberia. These countries thus grouped together were able to carry out a review of the contextual needs which gave rise to a SWOT analysis, the very first within this community in West Africa.
Even today the community is in crisis, but milestones have already been laid; we went from an invisible community to an official member directory of the forum with commitments and responsibilities. There was a long way from a leadership that always needed consultants to implement most of the actions to expert and dedicated consultants within the committees themselves, there was a long way from organizations that were alone and weak to a strong network united and whose members are increasingly autonomous.
